ABOUT THE ROLE The Director of Advocacy is in charge of high-level plans, oversight, and execution of advocacy-related action, which is designed to further youth interests at all levels of our political system. They oversee the Assistant Director of Policy & Action and the Assistant Director of Research to guide Our Time to Act United's advocacy agenda and impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of youth across the state and nation.     < Back Aidan Lin appointed by California Senate to new state-wide Youth Empowerment Commission Wednesday, January 18, 2023 Our Time to Act United On January 18th, the California Senate Rules Committee confirmed their appointment of Aidan Lin, Executive Director of Our Time to Act (OTTA) United, to the brand new state-wide Youth Empowerment Commission. “The California Youth Empowerment Commission is an exciting new opportunity to improve communication and meaningful collaboration between California’s youth and the state Legislature, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Governor,” summarized Toni Atkins, leader of the California State Senate, in a press release . Senator Atkins commended Mr. Lin for his work and experiences and said he will “no doubt be essential to the Commission during its formative years.” Our Time to Act United is extremely proud to hear of Mr. Lin’s involvement in the new commission. To date, he is the first California Youth Empowerment Commissioner in the state’s history.     < Back Michael Nguyen Director of Engagement Michael (he/him) is a second-year at University of California, Berkeley, intending on studying Business Administration and Economics. He is interested in both marketing and the nonprofit sector, and plans on finding a way to integrate the two in his future career. Prior to joining Our Time To Act, Michael was a Communications Assistant at the Research, Teaching, and Learning Services (RTL) at UC Berkeley.     < Back OTTA United helps pass Community Planning Group Reform at San Diego City Council Tuesday, September 13, 2022 Aidan Lin, Executive Director On Tuesday, September 13th, 2022, the San Diego City Council passed instrumental community planning group (CPG) reform at the urging of OTTA United, Circulate San Diego, and other groups. Youth and student leaders from OTTA United played an influential part in providing firsthand testimony of the exclusionary structures and behaviors of CPGs in support of the much-needed reform. ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a passionate and motivated Graphic Design intern to join our Communications team. This is a great opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain hands on experience and mentorship.     < Back Oliver Lin Board Director Oliver has lived in Boston, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles but considers the Bay Area home. He is a Stanford and Harvard trained clinical psychologist and has returned to Stanford University to serve as Operations Director at Counseling and Psychological Services, teach courses in Asian American Studies, supervise the next generation of psychologists, and provide outreach workshops and trainings. ABOUT THE ROLE The Assistant Director of Local Leaders directs the Local Leaders program, a hands-on community project designed to empower high school students in partnership with Title 1 schools. They are responsible for coordination between the Local Leader program’s Site Coordinators, Program Managers, and members. Additionally, they oversee our middle school tutoring program.   • Nicole Lillie

    < Back Nicole Lillie Director of Housing Justice Nicole (she/her/hers) is a Political Science - Public Law student in her final year at University of California, San Diego. Before joining Our Time To Act, Nicole was heavily involved in community service work as well as voter registration and education efforts. She led her high school's Rotary Interact Club, establishing lasting bylaws and garnering over 70 regular volunteers over 3 years. In 2019 and 2020 she led [pre-]voter registration drives, [pre-]registering over 300 high school students. In July 2022, she joined Our Time To Act as our Youth Voter Engagement Director, and is now serving as our Director of Housing Justice. In 2023, Nicole was honored by the OTTA team as Staff of the Year. She was also previously awarded 2022 Passionate Leader of the Year. Nicole believes the current state of housing in San Diego is unacceptable and that youth have the power to change it. She is passionate about organizing her peers to have transformative conversations about housing justice. The housing crisis is an intersectional issue and solutions must be informed by those disproportionately impacted by it. Nicole and her housing justice team are committed to creating safe, inclusive spaces for youth of all backgrounds to have a say in their present and future. Housing may be a complicated topic, but youth have an unmatched capacity for learning. Nicole hopes that her team can provide the information and tools necessary for youth to combine their lived-experience knowledge to the technical information necessary to solve the housing crisis. Nicole believes part of achieving housing justice is ensuring the experiences and perspectives of youth are heard and valued by their elected and community leaders, and she is only getting started.   • Benjamin Wang

    < Back Benjamin Wang AVEP Researcher Born and raised in Orange County, Benjamin Wang (he/him/his) is a proud Taiwanese-American and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Ben studies Political Science and Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego. A champion for education equity, Ben is a Supplemental Instruction Leader for the UC San Diego Academic Achievement Hub. In addition, Ben served as Recruitment Manager for STEMup4Youth, a nonprofit organization serving over 50000 students dedicated to bringing interactive science activities to underserved communities. Ben joined Our Time To Act in August of 2022 as a Voter Engagement Researcher, and is committed to increasing voter engagement for historically disenfranchised groups as well as speaking out for youth and student affairs. Ben is currently involved in an Our Time To Act initiative to study voter disengagement and apathy. Outside of his work, Ben is a distinguished violinist and pianist, a frequent gym-goer, an avid gamer, and a nationally recognized Naval JROTC cadet officer. In his free time, Ben enjoys volunteering at his local food bank and is a volunteer English tutor for non-native speakers. benjamin.wang@ourtimetoact.org

He spends his free time dancing and spending time with his family. Take, for instance, our recent wins in the past year in San Diego increasing youth and diverse representation in the community planning process and opening thousands of acres of land to more housing development to create more housing opportunities for youth and students . Where your money goes It's important to know what your donation goes towards. Here are our three main categories for use of funds: ORGANIZING YOUTH POWER We organize youth and build youth power by performing outreach, recruitment, programming, training, mentorship, mobilizing, and leadership development to support youth on causes that matter to them. HIGH-IMPACT PROJECTS We run various youth-led, high-impact projects that drive change in specific focus areas. Last year, we supported youth and AAPI voter engagement, redistricting reform, and housing and transit advocacy. TEAM CAPACITY BUILDING When you donate, you empower our young team to organize and advocate for youth across California. Our capacity is also dependent on training, insurance, critical software, and office space. At Our Time To Act, this is our power.
